Mathura is considered as one of the sacred seven cities according to Hindu mythology. This town is located very close to Delhi on the banks of river Jamuna. It is believed that Lord Sri Krishna was born in Mathura and was grown in Braj or Gokul.
Mathura is called as Krishna janmabhoomi, the center of Braj Bhoomi, the closest spot to Agra, Uttar Pradesh. The important places in Mathura are Govind Dev Mandir, Isckon temple, and Dwarakadheesh mandir. The other crucial places are court hall of Kamsa and prison where parents of Lord Sri Krishna are kept. In Vrindavan near to Mathura, it is said that Sri Krishna and his family came to take shelter here and rear the cattle free from the fears of demons. Gobardhan and Gokul
This place is just a few km away from Brindaban. Gobardhan and Gokul are adjacent places that depict different aspects of the life of Lord Krishna and his adventures as a child. In Gobardhan there is a temple of Krishna where it is believed as the place where Krishna lifted the mountain of Gobardhan to rescue the people of Brindaban during storms. The naivety offered after the day of Diwali is the special occasion celebrated here as Gobardhan pooja. In addition to all festivals related to Vaishnavite cult, Gobardhan Pooja is the special occasion celebrated here with nearly a hundred of kinds of offerings to Lord Krishna, called as Gobind bhog.
Gokul or Braj Bhoomi is the place it is believed that Vasudev left Sri Krishna in the house of Nanda and Yashoda. There are separate shrines for Nanda, Sri Krishna, and Yashoda to depict various events of the life of Lord Krishna and mirror temple of Sri Krishna is another attraction in this place.
