Lakshmi Narayan Mandir, New Delhi
Lakshmi Narayan Mandir was built in 1938 by Raja Baldev Das and was dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. The intention behind the construction of this temple was to allow devotees of all castes including untouchables to enter and pray in the temple. This temple was inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi.
This temple is also called as Birla Mandir. This temple is designed with modern architecture, unlike traditional temples. The deities were white marble idols. Each corner of the temple is engraved with thoughts from Bhagavadgita.
The miniature temples of Lord Hanuman, Lord Shiva, Goddess Durga, and Lord Krishna were constructed in addition to this temple. A shrine is constructed to the ancient Vedas along with the above miniature shrines.
The upper gallery of the temple consists of paintings that depict Hindu and Indian culture and painting works of artists from Jaipur. A temple is dedicated to Lord Buddha and it is decorated with paintings of life and teachings of Lord Buddha. This temple is known for celebrations of Janmashtami. The temple is open every day from 7 am to 12 pm and from 2 pm to 9 pm.
